TECHNOLOGY

We’re reimagining the car of tomorrow. Our future of sustainability-rich modern luxury is the biggest challenge we have faced in our history. And it’s one that we’ll achieve through agility, curiosity, creativity and innovative technology.

The brightest minds will help us get there. People who question everything in their pursuit of creating innovations that move people. People who will drive creative thinking faster than the competition. People who accelerate the change to cleaner, smarter, faster and unique luxury solutions. People who can discover a way of working that suits them and their creativity best. And people who can power the future of JLR.

Reimagining technology, disrupting an industry and developing solutions for a better world will be realised through our strategy, our investment and with the brightest technology minds who can develop new innovations that move people.

HUNGARY, BUDAPEST

JLR Hungary operates from a modern 6,000‑square‑meter engineering centre on two floors in downtown Budapest, home to three laboratories and around 400 employees. From this location, teams contribute directly to JLR’s vehicle programmes from early concept stages through validation and delivery.

Vehicle Platform

Mechanical Engineering in Budapest is responsible for the full development of exterior and interior components, closely integrating design, supplier engagement, and plant support. Alongside this, the Vehicle Platform organisation hosts its leading model‑based system engineering capability in Hungary, defining and developing features that span energy and charging functions, safety systems, and comfort technologies. Complementing this is the Motion Information team, which carries end‑to‑end responsibility for motion‑related functions, ensuring precise vehicle motion estimation from concept to production.

Digital Platform

Digital Platform in Hungary is strongly hardware‑focused and covers several core onboard technologies. The antenna team provides technical leadership for antenna development, while Connectivity delivers and validates eCall and bCall emergency calling systems. The EDS group owns 2D wiring design and brings deep 3D and manufacturing‑based expertise, ensuring robust and buildable harness solutions. Audio engineering leads advanced auralisation simulation, virtual tuning, and mitigation of audio‑induced NVH. One of the largest areas, ADAS, performs extensive feature validation, regularly uses the local proving ground, and operates locally built hardware‑in‑the‑loop rigs for high‑fidelity system testing.

Engineering Operations

A small but influential Engineering Operations team rounds out the site, driving battery passport development, platform commonality, and the digitalisation and connection of engineering processes across the enterprise well integrated with the UK operations.

PORTLAND, US

JLR’s Portland technology hub plays a key role in shaping the digital future of our products. Established in 2014 near major West Coast tech partners including Amazon, NVIDIA, Apple, and Google the site inaugurated a new, 50,000-square-foot facility in 2024. Portland leads delivery of major digital capabilities in vehicle cockpit, connectivity, assisted and autonomous driving, electric charging, and mobile and connected devices. The team also leads the adoption of new technology and development methodology, including DevOps and DesignOps practices.

As JLR’s North American Product Engineering hub, the Portland site also supports teams across the United States to deliver new technologies, partner with closely with our the Commercial arm of our business to support our customers, and ensure our products meet quality and regulatory requirements for the business.

FOCUS ON ... ROVER

JLR’s EV build and test facility in Coventry – which plays a crucial role in the luxury vehicle manufacturer’s plan to electrify all of its brands by 2030 – has added an unlikely colleague to its list of new recruits, in the form of a four‑legged robotic dog dubbed ‘Rover’.

Fully automated to follow a range of pre‑set routes, Rover conducts up to 24 patrols each day and night, using AI to physically open doors, ascend stairs and navigate high‑traffic areas with diligence. Continuously taking measurements and inspecting valves and machinery, Rover eliminates the risk of human error in these tasks, while allowing engineers to better spend their time analysing Rover’s results to make more insightful business and maintenance predictions or to perform repairs.
